This past Saturday I was invited by the LDS Public Affairs Council to be the photographer for the ribbon cutting of the Northwest African American Museum including the "Genealogy Research Center" within the museum. What a wonderful privilege this was. The air was charged with excitement as we all listened to the inspired words of gratitude spoken by so many of our state and local leaders. Below is a picture of Gordon Conger exchanging greetings with King County Executive Ron Sims as we are heading to the front of the former Colman School for the opening ceremony.
I was concerned when I woke up to our typical, wet weather but almost on cue the sun broke through the clouds during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. It turned out to be a beautiful day. The photograph below includes Myrna Conger, Bruce Merrill, and Gordon Conger at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The next picture was taken just before the ribbon-cutting ceremony. This is Barbara Earl Thomas, deputy director/curator for the museum. Their hands of friendship reminded me of how many hands shaped this project.
The Conger's also had a chance to talk with Joyce Taylor, co-anchor of King 5 Morning News
The Genealogy Research Center is located in the 960 sq. ft. multimedia learning center next to the museum administration offices. The Genealogy Research Center was furnished by the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and features resources to help people track their family histories.
I can't wait to take my kids to this museum!
