Images Published

I was thrilled to find out that three of my images taken at the Northwest African American Museum opening were featured in a news article posted on the LDS Newsroom.

The article is titled: Emotions Surface as New Museum Opens

Also a big thank you to Barbara Earl Thomas for giving me permission to use her images and helping me with names. The photograph above is of Barbara and Eddie Rye Jr. a long time friend and social activist just before they opened the museum to the public.

Kentridge Tolo 2008 - PICTURE TIME CHANGE!

Okay this is a quick post for the Kentridge HS Tolo "gang" that asked if I would take their dance pictures. The images below are from last year's Homecoming. The first image was taken about a 1/2 hour before sunset and the next two were taken right after sunset. You can really see the difference in the light - before the sun sets the light is really soft and flattering and after the sun sets it becomes more dramatic. I looked it up and the sunset on Saturday night is at 7:15 p.m. I'll be at North Coulon Beach (right next to the circle turn around) from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. and then hopefully Paul will take me on a date to Kidd Valley!

Please send me an email if you plan on coming out for pictures so that I can send you a price list. I will be collecting money and taking orders that night and will later post the pictures in an online gallery on my website.

Kentridge Senior, Todd

I really love working with High School Seniors - there is just something about them that is so energizing. They are right on the verge of completing a HUGE chapter in their life and moving toward amazing and exciting experiences that for the most part, they get to choose. I am always very interested to hear about their high school experiences and what is ahead of them. Todd was no exception to this - obviously a bright guy with an exciting future a head of him. I wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do.

Northwest African American Museum Opening

This past Saturday I was invited by the LDS Public Affairs Council to be the photographer for the ribbon cutting of the Northwest African American Museum including the "Genealogy Research Center" within the museum. What a wonderful privilege this was. The air was charged with excitement as we all listened to the inspired words of gratitude spoken by so many of our state and local leaders. Below is a picture of Gordon Conger exchanging greetings with King County Executive Ron Sims as we are heading to the front of the former Colman School for the opening ceremony.

I was concerned when I woke up to our typical, wet weather but almost on cue the sun broke through the clouds during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. It turned out to be a beautiful day. The photograph below includes Myrna Conger, Bruce Merrill, and Gordon Conger at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The next picture was taken just before the ribbon-cutting ceremony. This is Barbara Earl Thomas, deputy director/curator for the museum. Their hands of friendship reminded me of how many hands shaped this project.

The Conger's also had a chance to talk with Joyce Taylor, co-anchor of King 5 Morning News

The Genealogy Research Center is located in the 960 sq. ft. multimedia learning center next to the museum administration offices. The Genealogy Research Center was furnished by the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and features resources to help people track their family histories.

I can't wait to take my kids to this museum!
